The Many Benefits Healing Naturally with Acupuncture

Non-Invasive Option

Acupuncture is a science-based natural treatment that does not require surgery or recovery time, and it focuses on stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities.

Reduces Inflammation

Acupuncture can help alleviate pain and inflammation in the facial muscles and nerves associated with Bell’s Palsy, so that you experience relief.

Improves Circulation

Acupuncture promotes better circulation throughout the body, boosts your immune system, and reduces swelling, to enhance nerve regeneration.

Stimulates Facial Nerve

Acupuncture helps to stimulate the facial nerve and improve the motor function of the affected muscles. This promotes blood circulation and enhances nerve activity, which aids in muscle recovery.

Calms Nervous System

Changes in appearance can be stressful and emotionally challenging, particularly due to the sudden onset of facial paralysis. Acupuncture has been shown to have calming effects on the nervous system.

Releases Endorphins

When released, endorphins can help to reduce pain, promote feelings of relaxation, and elevate mood. This is why acupuncture is often used for pain management and emotional well-being.

Neurological Healing

Acupuncture stimulates your body’s natural healing mechanisms, and promotes the regeneration of damaged nerves. This improves your nervous system function and repairs nerve damage.

Analgesic Effects

Acupuncture has been shown to have analgesic effects, helping to reduce pain and discomfort, especially in the early stages.

Heals Tissues & Nerves

Acupuncture helps improve blood flow to the affected area, aiding in the healing of tissues and nerves. This also helps to support nerve regeneration and muscle healing, which are important for recovery.

Bells Palsy Surgery Option

The Pro's and Con's of Treatment Through Surgery

Immediate Relief of Symptoms

Surgery may be considered a solution for severe cases where there is compression of the facial nerve or when all other treatment options  have had little to no results.

Addresses Nerve Damage

In cases of nerve damage or trauma, surgery may help to repair the facial nerve, potentially restoring some facial expression and function.

May Improve Severe Cases

Surgery may provide significant improvement when facial paralysis is caused by a structural issue (e.g., tumors or fractures). These cases are very rare, but can occur, and the outcome after surgery can vary significantly from person to person.

Expensive and Invasive

Surgical procedures are usually expensive, invasive, require long recovery periods, and ongoing follow-up care.

Limited Effectiveness

Surgery may not significantly improve facial muscle function if the damage is related to viral inflammation (as in typical with most cases).

Risk of Complications

Surgery carries inherent risks such as infection, nerve damage, and scarring, which may worsen the condition or lead to new complications. In some cases, surgery can result in permanent nerve damage, infection,  or worsen your facial appearance.

Bells Palsy Botox (1)

The Pro's and Con's Of Using Botox for Treatment

May help with Facial Symmetry

Botox may be able to help with facial asymmetry and improve appearance in patients recovering from Bell's Palsy.

Fast Visible Results

Botox injections are a non-surgical option, and low pain procedure that could provide fast visual results and improved appearance with minimal recovery time.

May Improve Appearance

Botox can smooth out wrinkles and small facial imperfections that result from various forms of facial paralysis, potentially making the face look more symmetrical.

Harmful Side Effects

Possible side effects include bruising, weakness of muscles in the treated area, allergic reactions, infections or more.

Not a Permanent Cure

Botox doesn’t address the underlying cause of the problem it only temporarily improves appearance. It needs to be repeated every 3-4 months to be effective.

Potential for Overuse

Improper use or excessive Botox injections can lead to unnatural facial expressions leading to numbness, migraines,  or leading to difficulty in facial muscle movement.

Bells Palsy Doing Nothing

The Many Downsides of Doing Nothing

Facial Asymmetry

You may notice long-term facial asymmetry, including uneven eyes, eyebrows, nose, or mouth. This could vary from mild to severe.

Slow Recovery

Without medical intervention, recovery may take longer. The facial nerve may take longer to heal, especially if inflammation is severe.

Potential Nerve Damage

In some cases, the facial nerve may suffer lasting damage and can lead to permanent facial weakness or paralysis.

Risk of Complications

Complications such as synkinesis (involuntary muscle movements) may develop if condition is not treated, leading to abnormal facial movements.

Low Quality of Life

Unresolved facial weakness or asymmetry can lead to self-consciousness and emotional distress, affecting one's social interactions, confidence, and mental health.

Eye Problems

If left untreated, issues such as difficulty closing the eye on the affected side may result in  eye infections, dryness or damage to the eye (corneal abrasions).

I saw Dr.Ney for my Bell's palsy. I'm only in my 30s and woke up one morning to half my face being functional. This caused me a huge amount of stress. I was referred by friend who spoke highly of Dr.Ney. I've never done acupuncture before so I was nervous. Scheduling to see him was a breeze and staff were so kind. Dr.Ney was on time and didn't make me feel embarrassed. After several acupuncture sessions the Bell's palsy went away. During our sessions I was an emotional wreck but he helped me mentally feel better. I felt I got a therapy session and my acupuncture session. He's one of a kind and I am so glad I came here. He saved my face and helped with my mental health. Thank you so much, Dr.Ney! You do not know what you've done for me. I now come here for other needs. It was worth me making the hour drive to come here each time.
